Community Involvement
GIMG’s Community Involvement branch is dedicated to organizing, maintaining, and teaching our financial literacy curriculum to the greater Atlanta community. Since GIMG’s founding, community involvement has been a core function of the organization. We hope to use our platform within Goizueta to level the playing field for underprivileged middle and high school students around Atlanta. Each semester, GIMG members collectively serve over 100 hours.
We intend to keep our Community Involvement branch leadership team as lean as possible — if you are interested in volunteering with our organization, please reach out to the COO or an Exec Board member.
2022 - 2023 Outlook
Letter from our COO
To our members, stakeholders, and the greater Goizueta community,
I am thrilled to lead GIMG’s Community Involvement team into an exciting new chapter in our organization’s history. GIMG was founded under joint obligations to provide exceptional experience in portfolio management to our members as well as constant service of our local Atlanta community through financial literacy education. This year, I’m excited to work more closely with fund and PR leadership to rethink what collaboration means across the various wings of GIMG. Through a more unified club, we hope to reinvigorate our Community Involvement branch and further advance the club’s core mission.
I’m thankful to our former COO Joe Choi and our returning associates for building an outstanding foundation for us to launch new initiatives this fall. Throughout the pandemic, we’ve struggled to find in-person service opportunities. However, these past two years have allowed us to hone our financial literacy curriculum and build a breadth of resources to support our education and mentorship programs once schools reopen.
Now, with our historic partners like Maynard Jackson High and Druid Hills High opening their doors to students once more, we look forward to a return to face-to-face programming. We hope to support these in-person experiences not only with our restructured curriculum, but also with the network of exceptional organizations we’re lucky to call partners. Working closely with Emory SEED, the Center for Civic and Community Engagement, and alumni startups like Snowball Financial Education, we’re excited to build a truly engaging experience for both our members and partner classrooms.
Our updated curriculum will revolve around four key educational capabilities: career opportunities in business, the value of investments, a brief history of economics, and finally an overview of the college application process. We plan to deliver this curriculum by engaging fund members as educators, thereby delivering a comprehensive experience to both our members and the communities we’re involved in. While our vision for the future of the CI team is certainly ambitious, I’m confident that the consistently supportive Emory community and exceptional team we’ve built will see our plans to fruition.
Onwards!
Sincerely,
-
