Our Portfolio

GIMG runs two active, long-only investment strategies sourced from our two funds: the Equity Fund and the Fixed Income Fund, both of which belong to the larger endowment of Emory University. The portfolio is monitored under guidelines set by the administration of the Goizueta Business School, a highly respected Goizueta alumnus, and GIMG’s Executive Board.

Access to the Emory endowment allows our organization to offer an unparalleled experience both on campus and beyond. Analysts are able to gain experience throughout all stages of the investment cycle from idea generation to trade execution to divestment during their time in GIMG. In particular, GIMG offers analysts exposure to both equity and fixed income asset classes which replicates the strategy of professional asset management firms more closely. We hold a fiduciary responsibility to the Goizueta administration, our donors, alumni, and all those with a vested interest in the club to manage the funds with the goal of long-term value creation—while continuing, naturally, to offer our members an unmatched educational opportunity.

Any questions regarding our portfolio can be directed specifically to our CIOs Celia Zhou and Elle Haushalter, or more generally to our Executive Board.**

Please also note that the summaries below only serve as a rough estimate of our portfolio performance. For official results, please refer to our semester reports. Equity Fund

GIMG’s Equity Fund was started in 2011 with a $100,000 endowed gift by Mr. Rick Rieder, a Goizueta alumnus. The fund is benchmarked against the S&P 500, and our Equity Fund CIO is responsible for generating, overseeing, and executing a well-diversified, long-only portfolio of selected equity securities.

Fixed Income Fund

GIMG’s Fixed Income Fund was raised in 2015 through a second $100,000 endowment for the purpose of creating a strictly fixed-income oriented portfolio. The fund is benchmarked against the Barclays U.S. Aggregate Bond Index (AGG), and holds U.S. treasuries, municipal bonds, corporate bonds, and asset-backed securities. GIMG’s Fixed Income Fund CIO is responsible for diversifying risk across credit quality, duration, and sectors. ETFs have largely been utilized to access the corporate debt market without the high minimum order requirements needed for individual bond purchases.
